The Apple Gold Group is a recognized leader not only in the casual dining industry, but also in charitable fundraising. For ongoing charitable work in our communities, Apple Gold has been awarded the prestigious North Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association’s “Restaurant Neighbor Award” on multiple occasions. Our longstanding partnership with The V Foundation for Cancer Research earned us the “Heart of Applebee’s” award given to the Applebee’s franchisee that demonstrates the greatest commitment to a single cause or organization.Apple Gold Group Charities of Choice…
The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary NC State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. In 2007, our restaurant managers voted to make The V Foundation our company's "charity of choice" for our North Carolina Applebee's Restaurants. Each March for the past 8 years, guests who dine at any of our North Carolina Applebee's locations are invited to donate to The V Foundation for Cancer Research. For each $1 donated, guests are given a paper basketball of their favorite team to personalize and then hang in the restaurant. Since that time, with the support of our teams and guests, we have raised over $1,000,000 for Cancer Research. A few years ago, The V Foundation honored our ongoing efforts with the creation of the dedicated "Apple Gold Grant", and now every single dollar we raise goes directly to fund important pediatric cancer research at the Duke Children's Hospital.
Make-A-Wish® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
This incredible organization was inspired in 1980 by Chris, 7, who was diagnosed with leukemia. More than anything else, Chris wished to be a police officer. Caring people in his community granted his wish and set in motion a phenomenon that would create an unprecedented kind of charity…. Make-A-Wish® South Carolina was incorporated in 1984 to serve the children and families of South Carolina. The first wish was granted to Louis who wished to "see a big time football game." The chapter serves children 2 ½ to 18 years of age and has never turned down a medically qualified child.
With our team's passion, commitment and drive to grant wishes, throughout the length of our partnership, we've generated nearly $2,000,000 and granted over 250 wishes in South Carolina alone! We've seen first-hand the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish experience has on children, families, and entire communities. Each year Applebee's conducts several events in support of Make-A-Wish. These events range from in-restaurant fundraising campaigns to golf tournaments to Breakfasts with Santa. We are proud to have Make-A-Wish our charity of choice in South Carolina and look forward to granting many more wishes!

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of 4-year-old cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation has raised more than $120 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 550 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
Since 2005, franchisees of Applebee’s Grill & Bar® have supported ALSF by raising over $6 million. In 2016, 22 Apple Gold Group restaurants in Oklahoma and Arkansas joined the effort. Throughout July, guests who dined at participating Applebee’s locations were invited to donate $1 in exchange for a paper lemon to be hung up in the restaurant. In addition to selling paper lemons, the restaurants hosted bake sales, car washes, and other events to raise money for pediatric cancer.
